And if so, what? I use a sit-up bench and acheive about 250 - 300 every other morning, are these doing me any appropriate, if not what should I be doing. Objective is unambiguously a firmer stomach.

You should do them every other daytime and your stomache should burn or it wasn't enough. Eat protein and drink protein shakes to back recovery. Even next to lots of protein you shouldn't do them everyday! Directly after eating abs will become slightly smaller quantity visable but it will go away and they will look fine next. Unless you constantly eat crappy food and attain fat.
