Testosterone is converted to DHT. DHT binds to sites on down follicles. In people (mostly men) next to the gene for androgenic baldness, this causes the fuzz follicle to shrink over time. It may be that this gene causes an increase in the number of DHT receptors in the pelt follicles, or the gene may influence how testosterone is converted to DHT and produce greater quantities of DHT.
